Sicily - 9 Day Tour

Enjoy this amazing trip through fantastic Sicily! Having being ruled over the last twenty-five hundreds years by Greeks, Romans, Normans and Arabs before becoming part of Italy, this island is a unique mosaic of different cultures reflected also in its great cuisine. You will visit Palermo, Marsala,Catania ,Taormina, Mount Etna & fisherman villages. It will be a journey through flavours, colors , amazing food a cooking class, wine tastings and beautiful places. You will visit highlights, off the beaten path villages and you will have free time for your own shopping. A qualified guide/Sommelier will always accompany you during the tour. All accommodation is expected to be in Palermo and Taormina.

DAY 1

Half day - 1st Night in Palermo

After meeting the guide at Palermo airport, you will catch a private minivan to reach with a short transferyour accommodation in Palermo.
 
After check in, you will have time to relax and the guide will take you on a walking tour to see Palermo, via Maqueda, 4 Canti, Piazza Pretoria, The Palatine Chapel and to immediately immerse yourself in the Sicilian life style you we taste a typical Sicilian cannolo or a brioche with gelato!
 
Dinner will be in a typical restaurant (trattoria) where you will have authentic Sicilian cuisine.

DAY 2

Full day - 2nd Night in Palermo

Duomo di Monreale & Private Palazzo
 
The guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and you will start your day with the excursion to The Duomo di Monreale, splendor example of byzantine architecture and part of UNESCO Heritage since 2015.
 
Lunch will be in a local trattoria to experience the great Sicilian cuisine with norman, arab and greek roots.
 
In the afternoon you will visit the city center of Palermo and the elegant and famous Palazzo Federico built upon the Carthaginian city wall, where you will have the rare opportunity to tour a private noble palace with the count as your special guide.

DAY 3

Full day - 3rd Night in Palermo

Medieval village & Fisherman village
 
After meeting with the guide, you will embark for a full day sightseeing excursion outside of Palermo. You will visit the medieval village of Caccamo, up in the mountain ,its stunning lake view from the panoramic road and its castle, which is the largest and best preserved Norman castles in Sicily, and one of the largest in Italy.
 
Lunch will be served at a local pizzeria to taste a real Sicilian pizza and local wine!
 
On the way back to Palermo, you will visit one of the most characteristic fisherman villages in Sicily, Aspra Bagheria and the Anchovy Museum and Maritime Art, born from the passion of two brothers, which is a unique reality in the Mediterranean panorama. Before arriving in Palermo you will stop for a wine tasting, at sunset, by the sea.

DAY 4

Half day - 4th Night in Palermo

The Old Market & Sicilian Cooking Class
 
You can’t leave Sicily without having a cooking class! Get ready for a great experience with a Sicilian chef in Palermo. Our first stop will be at one of the most authentic, liveliest and oldest markets of Sicily, Mercato del Capo, where you will see all merchants at work and taste street Sicilian food and you will buy the ingredients for the cooking class. You will prepare Sicilian dishes with seafood and ...Chef Vincenzo will give lots of good tips and informations. Of course you will eat what you have prepared. Lunch will be paired with great Sicilian wine.
 
On the way back to the hotel, close to Teatro Massimo you will know the history of the Opera dei Pupi, in the list of UNESCO, which is a particular type of puppet theatre, established in Sicily in the early 1800’s.
 
In the afternoon you will have free time to spend in Palermo.

DAY 5

Full day - 5th Night in Palermo

Marsala Wine Tour & Windmills
 
The guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and by private minivan you will embark for a full day sightseeing in Marsala countryside. You will have the great opportunity to visit an ancient wine cellar famous for Marsala wine production, located in a “baglio”, the ancient Sicilian village, belonging to the family for generations. Here you will taste local wines and of course the Marsala, the cousin of sherry.
 
Lunch will be served in a local trattoria (local restaurant). In the early afternoon you will reach the Stagnone lagoon with the typical windmills and on a sailboat ride you will taste local wine, at the sunset, sailing towards the island of Mozia, founded mid- eight century BC.
 
Return to the hotel in Palermo.

DAY 6

Half day - 6th Night in Taormina

Taormina
 
Transfer to Taormina and check in the hotel.
Lunch will be in Taormina on a beautiful
terrace by the sea.
 
In the afternoon you will have a private
Taormina walking tour to explore the
village and its amazing hidden corners.
It is an explosion of colors, the blue of the
sea and the purple of the bougainville. Its
magnificent Greek-Roman Theatre is the
most spectacularly situated in the world that
and you will reach it through Corso Umberto I,
Taormina’s main street.
 
Taormina is the right place to taste the typical
granite Siciliana and marzapane! In the
afternoon you will have free time to spend in
Taormina.

DAY 7

Full day - 7th Night in Taormina

Catania & Mount Etna Wine tour
 
Today you will visit the beautiful Catania, with Piazza Duomo, the heart of the city, the Cathedral, the city hall and the Pescheria, the colourful fishmarket, and the Roman theatre. You will stop in the most ancient pasticcerie with Franca, the owner, proud to let you taste local typical cakes like cannoli with pistacchio, cassata ninnuzza, pasta di mandorle, “almonds milk”.
 
Lunch will be in a local trattoria.
 
In the afternoon you will reach a unique wine cellars and Mount Etna , World Heritage site in 2013. Etna is a unique destination which is one more reason to visit Sicily. The volcano has always inspired winemakers, enthusiasts, and wine lovers. Each slope of the mountain has its own history and presents an inimitable set of soil and climatic characteristics

DAY 8

Half day - 8th Night in Taormina

Taormina food experience
 
Hidden in a little road in the city center of Taormina you will visit a “bottega” ,an authentic local shop, with incredible home made cheeses and cold cuts, caponata (eggplants), nuts ,orange jams, sicilian dishes and fantastic bread that we will pair to sicilian wines.
 
It will be a pleasure to hear the owners speak so passionately about what they were serving. The amazing food, wonderful service and attention make this place a must see when in Taormina.
 
Our tour will end in a pasticcerie to taste different kind of cannolo, pasta di mandorle and cassata!
 
In the afternoon you will have free time to spend in Taormina.

DAY 9

Catania Fontanarossa Airport

Meeting with the guide in the lobby and transfer by minivan to Catania Fontanarossa airport. If you are reaching another destination, we will be happy to help you to organize accordingly.
